At Feathered Friends of Mobile, our mission is to ensure that every bird finds a safe, loving, and permanent home. We take each adoption seriously and have established the following policies to protect the wellbeing of our feathered friends.
Please read carefully before applying to adopt.
1. No Breeding
All adopted birds are to be kept as companions only. Breeding is strictly prohibited. Any adopter found allowing or encouraging breeding will lose adoption privileges.
2. No Transfer or Sale of Ownership
If you can no longer care for your bird, it must be returned to Feathered Friends of Mobile. Birds may not be sold, traded, rehomed, or transferred to another individual or organization under any circumstances.
3. Age Requirement
Adopters must be 18 years of age or older and demonstrate the maturity and stability to provide long-term care.
4. Home Visit Required
A home visit (virtual or in-person) is required prior to approval. This ensures the environment is safe, suitable, and bird-friendly — free from hazards like open flames, ceiling fans, or toxic substances.
5. Smoke-Free Home
We do not adopt to homes where anyone smokes or vapes. Birds have extremely sensitive respiratory systems, and exposure to smoke or fumes can be fatal.
6. Experience Required for Large Species
Applicants interested in adopting large parrots (Macaws, Cockatoos, some Amazons, some African Greys, etc.) must demonstrate prior experience and a clear understanding of the physical and emotional needs of these intelligent species.
7. Meet & Greet / Interview
A meet and greet and interview are required for all potential adopters to ensure the best possible match between bird and family.
8. Proper Housing & Enrichment
Birds must be kept in appropriately sized cages or aviaries and provided with daily out-of-cage time, enrichment toys, fresh food, and social interaction. They must never be kept outdoors unattended or in unsafe enclosures.
9. Ongoing Care & Commitment
Adopting a bird is a lifelong commitment. Adopters agree to provide proper veterinary care, nutrition, companionship, and a stable home for the bird’s lifetime.
10. Photos and Updates Required
Adopters agree to provide periodic pictures and updates so we can see how the bird is adjusting and thriving in their new home.
We love staying connected and ensuring every bird continues to receive the care they deserve.
11. Local Adoptions Preferred
We prioritize local adoptions within a reasonable distance to allow for home checks, support, and the option to return the bird if necessary.
12. Adoption Fees
Adoption fees help cover the cost of veterinary care, food, and housing. Fees are non-refundable and serve as a donation to support our rescue efforts.
13. Right to Refuse Adoption
Feathered Friends of Mobile reserves the right to deny or revoke an adoption at any point if it is determined that it’s not in the best interest of the bird.
