Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at featheredfriendsofmobile@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

There are many ways to donate to our Rescue! You can donate online through our website, Amazon Wish List, or drop off supplies in person.

We are always in need of food, toys, newspapers, and other supplies.

We recommend that you spend time with our birds, including several visits before finalizing an adoption to make sure they are a good fit for your family.

No. Our birds are not adopted out for entertainment, talking, tricks, or performance. Many birds never talk, some stop talking due to trauma, and some only vocalize with one person. Talking is never guaranteed and should never be a deciding factor in adoption.

Safety. We do not judge your home, cleanliness, furniture, or décor. We need to see where the bird will live so we can identify potential hazards such as ceiling fans, toxic plants, candles, incense, Teflon cookware, other pets, unsafe cages, or risky setups. If a walk-through video is not provided, a video call, or allowing us to do a home visit, we cannot move forward with a meet-and-greet.

No. Birds are not traded, swapped, upgraded, or exchanged. This is not a marketplace or trade program. Every bird is an individual life, not an object. This question alone disqualifies an applicant.

No. Our birds carry experiences that shape who they are and how they trust. They come with history, trauma, habits, fears, and preferences. Some may be shy, some may be defensive, some may take months or longer to trust. If you are looking for convenience or perfection, rescue is not the right fit.

No guarantees. We cannot promise cuddles, talking, stepping up, or instant bonding. Relationships with a rescue bird are built slowly through patience, consistency, and respect for boundaries.

No. Birds live for decades. Children grow, change, and leave home. An adult must be the primary, lifelong caregiver and decision-maker for the bird.

Because rushed adoptions fail. I am one person responsible for ensuring every bird has a successful placement; caring for them daily, cleaning, coordinating vet visits, coordinating meet-and-greets, reviewing applications, answering emails and calls, and homeschooling on top of it all.

For this reason, we do not allow impulse adoptions, same-day decisions, or pressure of any kind. Our process exists to protect the birds and to ensure long-term success for both the bird and the adopter.

Bird ownership requires ongoing expenses, including quality food, proper housing, toys and enrichment, and regular avian vet care. Emergency vet visits are a reality and must be planned for in advance.

We respond to serious, respectful inquiries that follow our process. Messages that ignore requirements, push boundaries, or treat birds as commodities may not receive a response.

Our goal is not to place birds quickly. Our goal is to place them safely, responsibly, and forever.

These birds have already experienced loss.

They deserve patience, stability, and lifelong commitment.

Because impulse adoptions often fail. Parrots are lifelong, intelligent beings with emotional needs. We require time for education, discussion, and reflection to ensure the adoption is truly the right fit—for both you and the bird.

Because we are a rescue, not a store. Our responsibility doesn’t end when a bird leaves—it begins. Taking time helps prevent returns, trauma, and failed placements.

Applications help us understand your experience, lifestyle, expectations, and ability to meet a bird’s needs. Interviews allow us to answer questions honestly and ensure everyone is prepared for success.

No. Birds should never be gifts or surprises. The adopter must be fully involved, educated, and committed. Surprises often lead to neglect or surrender.

Because birds are not trial runs. Rehoming is traumatic, especially for rescue birds who have already experienced loss or instability.

We do mutual matching. A bird’s personality, comfort level, and needs matter just as much as the adopter’s wishes. Sometimes the bird chooses you—and sometimes we guide you toward a better fit.

Saying no protects the bird. Not every home is right for every bird, and we will always choose the bird’s long-term well-being over convenience or pressure.

Adoption fees help cover veterinary care, food, housing, enrichment, and transport. These birds receive ongoing care regardless of adoption outcome.

Responsible ownership includes access to an avian veterinarian. Birds hide illness, and routine care is essential to their survival and quality of life.

Yes. We remain a resource for guidance, questions, and support. Successful adoptions don’t end at pickup or delivery.

Bird ownership will have challenges. We expect adopters to reach out for support—not give up. Commitment means working through difficulties, not returning the bird at the first obstacle.

We go above and beyond to reduce stress and ensure a smooth transition, when distance allows. This is done with the bird’s best interest in mind—not convenience.

Because we are a small rescue run by one person who handles daily care, cleaning, vet visits, transportation, communication, and homeschooling—while ensuring every bird receives individual attention and respect.
